Lactulose (4-O--d-galactose-D-furan fructose) is a disaccharide, which is connected by -(1→4) glycoside bonds between galactose and fructose.

It is prepared by isomerization of lactose, which is naturally present in milk. The industrial production of lactose isomerization is made by using lactose as raw material under alkaline condition after heat treatment.

Lactulose is a functional disaccharide prebiotic with high safety and easy to use. At present, it mainly exists in two physical states: Lactulose powder and Lactulose liquid.Lactulose powder is a white or nearly white crystalline powder; Lactulose liquid is a colorless to dark yellow liquid. The stability of the two physical states is very high, the sweetness and heat is low, and it is soluble in water.

Lactulose is a bifidogenic factor, which can significantly promote the proliferation of bifidobacteria in human body, inhibit the growth of spoilage bacteria, thus regulating the balance of intestinal flora; at the same time, it can be metabolized by intestinal microorganisms, and the short chain fatty acids produced can reduce the intestinal pH value and increase the intestinal flora Intestinal osmolality can promote intestinal peristalsis, shorten intestinal transit time, and achieve the effect of prevention, relief and treatment of constipation. Lactulose is the only prebiotic that can be used for both medicine and food. It is called lactulose in the pharmaceutical industry, which is used to treat constipation and hepatic encephalopathy.

Development history

In 2016:New GB 1886.176-2016 jointly initiated and revised by our company and China Food Fermentation Industry Research Institute.

In 2012:Article 13 (1) of directive 24/2006 of the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) on the confirmation of health claims claims claims that Lactulose helps to reduce the potential pathogenic microorganisms and shorten the intestinal transit time.

In 1996:It is approved by Japan that Lactulose can be added to food with special health functions.

In 1988 The first time China issued the national standard GB8816-88 food additive Lactulose solution.

In 1966 Bircher began to use it in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy.

In 1960 First soft infant formula with Lactulose on the market.

In 1959 MacGillivray, Canada, confirmed that the intestinal microflora composition of infants fed with infant milk powder supplemen
